Description:
The Senior Director, Marketing and Engagement leads a team of professionals responsible for the full range of WAMU’s marketing, communication, and engagement activities, designed to integrate a range of activities into a consistent, inspiring brand identity that raises the profile, prominence, and value of WAMU regionally and nationally. (S)he ensures that WAMU uses all opportunities – on air, online, social and other digital media, advertising, public events, funder presentations, and internal and external meetings - to tell a compelling story that builds WAMU’s reputation and drives engagement, in the context of American University’s broader narrative. The department oversees council, board, and community relations, volunteers, and interns The Senior Director is the station’s lead liaison to the University’s marketing and communications team. (S)he leads innovative approaches to marketing, engagement, and communication that increase station loyalty and help increase revenue and donor participation. (S)he also serves as one of the station’s primary ambassadors regionally and nationally.
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum Requirements:
  • At least fifteen years of increasingly responsible experience including responsibility for developing and implementing strategic marketing, outreach and engagement plans, or other relevant experience
  • Recognized as a leader in innovative marketing and engagement strategies
  • Experience with or leading strategic Brand development and design, marketing campaigns, and media strategy in the contemporary multi-platform media environment
  • Prior supervisory experience is required including training and mentoring staff
  • Demonstrated understanding of how brands translate across platforms
  • Has strong presence and profile in region and/or nationally
  • Knowledge of how to use data, best practices, and metrics to assess progress
