The Assistant Dean for External Relations (AD) reports to the Dean and is a member of the Dean’s Executive Committee. The AD will strategically plan, direct and coordinate all fundraising activities at WCL. This will include prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, as well as building relationships with prospective donors, leadership, faculty, and volunteers to support programs and priorities. The AD will lead, inspire and manage a staff to successfully secure major gifts from alumni, friends, corporations and foundations.  In addition, the AD will manage the Office of Public Relations as well as the Office of Special Events and Continuing Legal Education (SE/CLE).  The AD leads a team of five and provides staffing for the law school’s Dean’s Advisory Council.

Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in training or experience required. Graduate degree (i.e. JD or MBA) preferred.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Seven years of progressively responsible fundraising experience and program management
  • Proven fundraiser with a record of high-end fundraising results
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strategic and innovative leader with exceptional planning and time-management skills
  • Goal-driven, results and detail-oriented, with the ability to multi-task
  • History of meeting or exceeding challenging gift targets
  • Seasoned leader with a record of managing collaborative work environments
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, drive, and integrity; passion for the School’s mission/values
  • Knowledge of web operations, relevant software, database skills/collections along with understanding the relevance, and social sites
Preferred Requirements:
  • Higher education experience
