WAMU is seeking a visionary, experienced, and digitally oriented Editorial Director to lead and implement its ambitious regional news strategy across all platforms. The Editorial Director will take that “road map” and bring it to life across all regional news coverage—to include online, newscasts, social media, and talk programming. The Editorial Director will direct the regional coverage workflow, leading daily and weekly coverage meetings, and developing long-term coverage plans for WAMU’s signature content verticals. This leader will set the standard for high-caliber audience-driven storytelling, and will foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.    
Educational Requirements:
Master’s degree in journalism or equivalent in education, training, or experience.      
Minimum Requirements:
  • 7+ years leading a team of journalists, preferably with a focus on multiplatform distribution
  • An insatiable interest in news and digital content trends and an understanding of digital behavior and current/emerging digital platforms
  • Strong news judgment and editing/producing experience across a range of reporting and storytelling genres
  • Experience building audiences, leading the integration of content, including local, national and international news, across platforms
  • Understanding of the FOIA and public records, and an appreciation for the practice of data-focused journalism
  • Experience leading journalists with varying experience and platform backgrounds
  • Experience in team building and leading collaborative work processes
  • An understanding of the values, sound and sensibility of public radio and enthusiasm for the station and the region
  • A strong track record of applying insights from analytics and benchmarks to content decisions on air and online
  • An appreciation for a sense of place and the value of localism
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
Preferred Requirements:
  • Familiarity and appreciation with the Washington region
