The Psychiatric Health Practitioner provides psychiatric healthcare services to American University students within the scope of practice of a Nurse Practitioner licensed by the DC Board of Nursing. The practitioner serves as a resource to Student Health Center staff on best patient care practices, and collaborates extensively with the Office of the Dean of Students, Counseling Center, and other campus partners to educate the campus community on psychiatric care. The practitioner participates in weekly case conference meetings with clinicians in the university’s Counseling Center to ensure effective coordination of care.    
Educational Requirements:
- Current licensure (or license-eligible) in the District of Columbia as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
- National Certification as a Family Psychiatric Mental Health Practitioner.
- Eligibility for DEA registration.    
Minimum Requirements:
- At least 3 years of clinical experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in a Primary Care setting.
- Ability to discuss medical information with patients in an understandable manner with a high degree of tact.
- Proven ability to work across organizational boundaries as an effective member of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to manage multiple, competing priorities; demonstrated computer proficiency including personal productivity software and electronic medical record systems; strong analytical skills; and excellent communication skills are required.
- Must have highest standards of integrity and ethics in both performance and behavior.
- Desire and appreciation for work in a diverse, fast-paced environment.    
Preferred Requirements:
Prior experience in college health preferred.

This is a 10-month position, 35/hours per week.
