Under the general supervision of the Manager of Investigations, the Investigator conducts criminal, administrative and internal investigations for the Department of Public Safety. The incumbent thoroughly assesses threats against the University community and collaborates with other DPS units, AU organizations and liaises with outside law enforcement agencies. The Investigator r recommends appropriate response measures and action items for threat assessments, crime trends and administrative/internal investigations to senior leadership in Public Safety.    
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and experience which demonstrates the necessary skills and abilities required for the position. 
Minimum Requirements:
- Must have at least 4 years in a law enforcement setting with experience leading investigations. Relevant experience includes: assessing and analyzing evidence, statements and threats; collaborating with other law enforcement agencies and elements of the criminal justice system; utilizing databases, digital video surveillance and other software tools for investigative purposes; and obtaining arrest warrants, court orders and search warrants. 
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as public speaking skills are a must. 
- Report editing skills and proficiency with computers and software packages are necessary. 
-Ability to interact with a diverse population, ability to work with minimum supervision and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced setting is important. 
- Must be able to work various hours, including nights and weekends, and to respond to incidents on-call.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a University Special Police Commission for the District of Columbia, possess and maintain a current driver’s license, and be able to obtain the University’s approval to drive University vehicles.
- Must possess certification from a recognized law enforcement training academy or equivalent.
Preferred Requirements:
- Comprehensive knowledge of the D.C. Code and criminal justice system is preferred.
